Schifferstadt opens new season with a bang on April 8.

Frederick’s newest National Historic Landmark, Schifferstadt Architectural Museum, will celebrate Bell & History Day on April 8 with special activities.  County Executive Jan H. Gardner will represent Frederick in honoring the new status of the house with remarks at 12 noon.  Frederick Town Fife and Drum will make a spirited musical tribute.  The museum will be open for tours from 12:15 noon – 4pm.  Frederick Town Fife and Drum will provide various musical demonstrations throughout the day.  (Free, donations are appreciated.)

Mark your calendars for these events held at Schifferstadt or off-site to support Landmarks:


Museums at the Mall - April 1, 10am - 3pm, at Francis Scott Key Mall (learn about all the wonderful museums in Frederick County in one location)


Bell and History at Schifferstadt  - April 8th, 12noon - 4pm, activities at Schifferstadt - and other sites in Frederick (will be listed here as info becomes available), free event

 

Schifferstadt Herb Fest - May 13th, 11:30am - 4pm, in celebration of National Herb Day there are workshops available, herb vendors, house and garden tours, activities are free (one workshop will have a cost). Also - more festive activities are planned to celebrate spring including a May Pole and craft vendors! (Happy Mothers Day!)


Barnstormers Tour  - June 10th, 10am - 4pm (main "host" barn location will be announced soon)


Frontier Day at Schifferstadt - June 17th, free educational historical activities on the grounds of Schifferstadt (Happy Fathers day!)


Oktoberfest at Schifferstadt - October 21st and 22nd, free event, craft vendors, German food and music, and historical demonstrators

Schifferstadt receives National Historic Landmark designation


Many admirers already know that Schifferstadt is a very special structure - it being an eminent example of German colonial architecture in the region. It has been on the National Register of Historic Places for many years - but on January 11, 2017, the Department of the Interior designated it as a National Historic Landmark. NHL's are quite rare. Frederick has two NHL's - Monocacy National Battlefield and now Schifferstadt. We are so honored.

Museums By Candlelight was a success. Although we are now closed for regular weekend tours our gift shop will be open during the week until 3pm. There are great holiday gift items such as pottery, beeswax candles, ornaments, preserves, herbal lotions and oils, note cards, books, and more!

Museums By Candlelight at Schifferstadt


 Enjoy a fun and traditional way to celebrate the holidays at Schifferstadt this coming Saturday, December 10th, 12noon - 6pm. 

Activities include kids' crafts, carols by the Hessian Regiment Living History Group, hearth-cooking demonstrations, tours, and a visit from  "Weihnachtsmann" - the German Father Christmas! Items for sale include scherenschnitte ornaments, pottery, beeswax candles and much more!
