Museums By Candlelight was a success. Although we are now closed for regular weekend tours our gift shop will be open during the week until 3pm. There are great holiday gift items such as pottery, beeswax candles, ornaments, preserves, herbal lotions and oils, note cards, books, and more!

Museums By Candlelight at Schifferstadt
Enjoy a fun and traditional way to celebrate the holidays at Schifferstadt this coming Saturday, December 10th, 12noon - 6pm.
Activities include kids' crafts, carols by the Hessian Regiment Living History Group, hearth-cooking demonstrations, tours, and a visit from "Weihnachtsmann" - the German Father Christmas! Items for sale include scherenschnitte ornaments, pottery, beeswax candles and much more!

The event goes Saturday 10am - 5pm; and Sunday 12noon - 5pm.
Sausage Tent, Pretzel Tent, Information/Raffle area (for those people who enjoy talking to others and are good at reaching out).
Volunteers get a lunch voucher.
(Sausage
and Pretzel tents will have early set-up times starting at 8:00am
(Sat.), and 10am (Sun.). We also have shifts that go later on each day
to stay after closing time for clean up.)
People can volunteer all day or do shorter shifts, approximately like this...

Preservation Maryland
is working with the Thurmont Historical Society and Doug Claytor to run a hands-on historic window workshop on Saturday, September 17. We’re
going to get to work on the Cozy Inn cabin
that the Historical Society was able to save when the Inn was
demolished earlier this year. So there’s a couple of reasons that this
is a cool workshop.

Frontier Day - June 25th, 10am - 4pm
at Schifferstadt Museum
Step into
frontier life during the later 1700's in Frederick. Frontier Day (free) will feature colonial re-enactors, including riflemen, a blacksmith, wool spinners, and
other interpreters. Experience a hands-on way to learn about Frederick's early day-to-day life while meandering the Schifferstadt grounds. Kids will
enjoy seeing the barn yard animals and historic hounds. Visitors can also have
fun solving a scavenger hunt. Vendors will be selling native plants (many of
which are grown in the Heritage Garden) and herbal lotions and salves. We'll
have a food vendor - so stay for lunch! Tours of the house and garden will also
be available.

The Barns Of South Mountain
Nine barns in the scenic foothills of the South Mountain Region will be featured during the Frederick County Landmarks Foundation 10th Annual Barnstormers Tour and Plein Air Paint-Out. The event will take place on Saturday, June 11, 2016, rain or shine.
This popular annual self-guided tour calls attention to these beautiful old structures and their importance to our agricultural heritage. The tour provides a rare opportunity to gain access to some of our most scenic and private farm properties.
This event has three components, a ticketed barn tour, an art show/sale, and various educational demos and displays. Tickets (guide books with map) are $15 dollars per adult. Children 16 and under are free. Using the map, tour-goers may drive their vehicles to as many of the farm locations as they wish to visit. The farms are only open to visitors on that day. Tour hours are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Trained barn docents will greet visitors at each barn. Some of the barns may feature extra educational displays such as blacksmithing, antique farm tools, handmade products, joinery, quilting, and Civil War reenactors.

This year the Schifferstadt's Heritage Garden will be featured in Celebrate Frederick's "Beyond the Garden Gates Tour". For a special tour of the Heritage Garden on this weekend, visitors must have an event ticket. However, we will be offering tours of the house like any other weekend, 1pm - 4pm on Saturday and Sunday.

This is a self-guided tour of several barns in Frederick County that open for this one special day to the public. A map/guide book serves as the ticket for the event ($15., kids are free.) Artists are set up at each barn painting. A reception is held to exhibit the art created that day for sale - with food and live music 5pm -7pm.

This event provides a hands-on way to learn about Frederick during the colonial time period on the Schifferstadt grounds, located at 1110 Rosemont Ave. Frederick, MD. Tours of the house and garden will also be available. (Free)

Barnstormers Tour
This year's Barnstormers Tour will be held Saturday, June 11, 2016
10 am – 4 pm (rain or shine). This year is the 10th Anniversary
and will feature Barns of South Mountain, on
and around the back roads between Myersville and Middletown.
To make the day successful we rely on our volunteers. We
need barn tour guides (docents), ticket sellers, and parking
guides. We offer full training, tee-shirts, and lunches for
our volunteers - as well as a hot dog picnic at the end of
the day. Students are also encouraged to participate, and
will receive volunteer credit hours.
